Feasting At The Right Table

Feasting at the Right Table: Satisfying Your Soul in God’s Love

We are all feasting at a table—whether we realize it or not. Every day, our soul—our thoughts, emotions, and will—is being nourished by something.

The question is: Which table are you feasting at?

For many of us, when emotions rise—whether it’s stress, sadness, or even celebration—we instinctively turn to food for comfort. The world’s table offers temporary relief, but God’s table offers eternal satisfaction.

Food is a gift from God, meant to be enjoyed, but it was never meant to replace the One who truly satisfies. The Lord invites us to feast at His table of love, peace, and joy, yet so often we find ourselves at the world’s table, trying to fill a hunger that only He can satisfy.

The Wrong Table: Emotional Eating & Temporary Fulfillment

Emotional eating happens when we try to feed the soul with physical food. We eat not because we’re hungry, but because our emotions feel overwhelming. The problem is, no amount of food can heal a hurting heart.

When we eat from the wrong table, we may feel satisfied for a moment, but soon regret, guilt, and emptiness settle in. The temporary relief fades, and we find ourselves hungry again—hungry not just for food, but for peace, security, and love.

Jesus addressed this when He said:
"Do not labor for the food which perishes, but for the food which endures to everlasting life." – John 6:27

The wrong table—whether it’s emotional eating, self-sufficiency, or distractions—always leaves us empty.

The Right Table: Feasting on Christ’s Love

God calls us to feast at His table. What does that look like? It means nourishing the soul with what is eternal, not temporary.

Instead of stress-driven eating → Feast on His Peace

"You will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on You." – Isaiah 26:3

Instead of eating to escape emotions → Feast on His Comfort

"As a mother comforts her child, so will I comfort you." – Isaiah 66:13

Instead of guilt and self-condemnation → Feast on His Grace

"There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus." – Romans 8:1

His table offers true nourishment—not just for our body, but for the wounds and longings of our soul.

Pausing Before You Eat: Asking the Right Questions

Before you eat, take a moment to pause and ask:

1️⃣ Am I eating out of true hunger, or am I trying to fill an emotional need?
2️⃣ What am I really craving right now—food or God’s presence?
3️⃣ Have I invited the Lord into this moment?

Pausing and redirecting our focus to the Lord allows us to eat from the right table—where He fills us with lasting joy, peace, and love.

Communion: A Picture of the Ultimate Feast

Jesus invites us to remember Him at the table. When He broke bread with His disciples, He wasn’t just sharing a meal—He was revealing the true feast: Himself.

"I am the bread of life. He who comes to Me shall never hunger, and he who believes in Me shall never thirst." – John 6:35

When we partake in Holy Communion, we are feasting on Christ in faith. We remember that He alone is our sufficiency, our peace, and our satisfaction.

What would happen if we approached every meal with that same awareness? If, instead of turning to food for comfort, we turned to the One who gave Himself for us?

Feast on His Love, Not on Your Emotions

The enemy wants to keep us at the world’s table, feeding on what never satisfies. But Jesus invites us to His table, where love, healing, and joy overflow.

The next time you feel tempted to eat out of emotion rather than need, pause. Picture Jesus sitting at His banquet table, waiting for you. He is saying:

"Come, sit with Me. Feast on My love. Let My presence fill you more than food ever could."

Feast at the right table—the table of God’s presence—and you will never leave empty.
